Hidden Gem in Paju: Cosmos Bunsik (코스모스분식) at Geumchon Market
Craving some old-school Korean street food in a no-frills setting?
Cosmos Bunsik (코스모스분식) in Paju’s Geumchon Traditional Market is exactly what you’re looking for — comforting, nostalgic, and seriously satisfying.

③ Why It’s Worth the Hype
We stumbled upon Cosmos Bunsik on a local market day — it turns out every day ending in 1 or 6 is a Geumchon 5-day Market Day (금촌오일장). We didn’t plan it, but it added to the vibe!
This place has been on my must-visit list for a while. I actually came once before, but missed it right before closing.
Today, I finally got to try it — and wow, it hit the spot.
It’s one of those old, worn-down places that’s been around forever, but you know what? That only made me trust it more.
④ What We Ordered
We ordered 2 servings of tteokbokki (떡볶이) with extra mandu (dumplings), jjolmyeon noodles, and a roll of gimbap.
Prices were super reasonable:
As soon as we placed our order, the table was set and the instant-style hot pot tteokbokki arrived — bubbling and glorious.
They even gave us the mandu separately and said to toss them in once the pot starts boiling.
Since it didn’t look like too much food at first glance, we also added a packet of ramyeon noodles (because I love dangmyeon, but my husband wanted to make sure I was full!).
⑤ What Makes It Special
It may not look like a huge portion, but once it starts boiling — wow, the flavor is unbeatable.
The mandu wasn’t your usual cheap fried dumpling — it had a homemade feel and a satisfying chew.
We threw in the ramyeon, mixed everything together, and let it simmer.
Watching it bubble was half the joy.
And then the gimbap came out — soft, familiar, like the kind your mom would pack for a picnic.
The side broth? That peppery old-school fishcake soup flavor you can’t quite find anymore.
By the end, we were absolutely stuffed. I had plans to fry up some rice at the end, but I was too full.
Next time — I’m not missing out on that.
⑥ How to Get There
It’s tucked away in a narrow alley inside Geumchon Traditional Market (금촌전통시장), so it can be a bit tricky to find.
Here’s the easiest way:
Search for Hyundai Bookstore (현대서점) on your map.
Park at the nearby public parking lot right next to it.
Once you step out, look across the street — you’ll see a small entrance to the market alley.
Go in and take the first left. Cosmos Bunsik is right there on the corner.

⑨ Final Thoughts
There’s something special about discovering food like this — tucked away, unpretentious, and full of heart.
Cosmos Bunsik may not look fancy, but the taste? Pure gold.
Just make sure you don’t miss closing time — and come hungry, because this one’s worth the carbs.
